Polini Motori of Italy manufactures a variety of paramotor engine models they call the ‘Thor’. The company was founded in 1945 in the city of Alzano Lombardo, Bergamo, Italy (and are still there today). Through the years they supplied small two stroke engines for the moped and racing market. Thor 80

The project of the updated Polini Thor 80 was born by the precise will to match its unbelievable power and compactness features to its extraordinary weight/power ratio, as well as its thrust and upward potential.
The original air filter stands out for its modern, carbon look design, with very compact dimensions. If compared to the previous air filter, the new one reduces the noise. The filtering element has an advanced technology, to ensure maximum air cleaning features during the aspiration.
The main feature of the Thor 80 engine is the new carburetion setting, which ensures a more homogeneous and linear power output at every rpm.

The extreme care and clarification of the details characterizing the engine Polini Thor 80 start with the reduced dimensions and the absolute compactness of the engine, which only weights 11,4 kg. The liquid cooling system has been developed to ensure the maximum temperature uniformity during the flight. The radiator with very compact dimensions and the unique drawing of the air grill ensure the best cooling features. This special pipe and the radiator are integrated and fixed directly to the engine. The system has a forced cooling with a valve directly on the crankshaft. The circulation of the cooling liquid is ensured by a pump on the reduction group.

Polini Thor 80 has an aluminium cylinder, a displacement of 86cc and a power of 18 hp for 10450rpm. The barrel has a nickel-siliceous coating, extremely resistant to wear and abrasion. The light alloy gravity-cast piston at high siliceous content has 2 chromed piston rings of 1 mm. Bore for stroke 50 x 44 mm and compression ratio 14:1. The fuel system has a Polini CP carburetor Ø21mm. with manual pump for the refilling of the fuel circuit. Integrated on the engine support, it makes this function easier by keeping minimal overall dimensions. The fuel system has also a tank for the fuel recovery. This feature allows to empty the fuel from the bowl, in order not to have losses and make transport easier. As an alternative, the Walbro WG8 carburetor is available. The Thor 80 has a dry clutch, reduction ratio 3,58 with helicoidal teeth gears in oil bath. These features grant a higher safety during the pre-flight phases.

The exhaust system has been realized to reduce its dimensions at minimum and keep the noise level low through the round light alloy silencer. The updated Thor 80 has been enriched by many details, such as the silentblocks, which, in order to reduce the weight more and more, have been produced in a special ERGAL ultra-light alloy. The engine is delivered with CHT sensor to measure the temperature. The Thor 80 fixing points to the frame are the same for all the range of the Polini Thor on sale. As optional, the tool for the temperature measure, rpm and counter and the manual throttle with lever handle are available. All the Polini Thor engines, before being shipped all over the world, are tested on the bench tests, in order to ensure their perfect functioning.

Thor 130 EVO

The trading and competition success achieved by Polini Thor engines, has driven Polini towards a restyling of THOR 130.
The new Thor 130 features a very compact design. The exhaust system is divided into 2 shells. The exhaust manifold is with spherical coupling and it is fixed on rubber suspensions that grant an incredible duration. The springs supplied with steel hooks make them strong and offer the possibility to fasten them for higher safety level. The crankcase has been revisited to be more compact and uniform.
The new Polini THOR 130 EVO is an advanced engine that can adopt two different fuel systems: Ø 24 bowl carburetor or Walbro WG8 carburetor. The engine has been developed and produced with handmade criteria through the most modern and advanced productive systems, constantly followed up by specialized technicians with great experience, professionality and creativity.

Thor 190 HF

As its Thor 200 HF older brother, the Polini Thor 190HF has been developed by the R&D team using the new 3D modeling software systems and flow dynamic simulation. The result of this research and the introduction of the innovative HF System grant better cooling improving the performance of the Thor 190HF. Polini THOR 190 HF engines feature: 193cc displacement, reduced weight till 13,6 kg if equipped with Titanium exhaust system (available as an optional).

Technical features:

“HF” COOLING SHROUD
The new design of the “COVER” cooling shrouds optimizes and accelerates the incoming flows and increases the exit power towards the propeller.
Together with the air forced system it grants great performance in terms of cylinder cooling.

SPARK COOLING SYSTEM
SCS is the innovative cooling system of the spark plug that lows the working temperatures in the point of highest warm and in the burning chamber, eliminating the events of over-heating. Polini SCS system reduces the EGT temperatures till 100 C° and till 50 C° the ones under the spark plug.

HEAD
The new profile of the burning chamber improves the propagation of the flame optimizing the fuel combustion phase. This peculiarity, together with the increasing of the compression ratio, increases the engine performance reducing the fuel consumption.

TRASMISSION
Belt transmission with 2,83 reduction ratios. The belt is made of special mixture with the aim to increase the grip, to reduce the servicing, to improve the stability, life and power output.
To reduce and contains vibrations a new crankshaft with distributed and optimized rotating weights has been designed for this specific transmission system.
To resist to the belt strength, a special bearing has been housed on the transmission case side. It can stand a transversal load 10 times higher than the standard roller bearings. It lets the belt have a constant stretch.

SPECIFIC POWER UNIT
The light alloy casting cylinder has a 193cc displacement, 64mm bore, 60 mm stroke. It offers the best performance with 29 hp of power at 8100 rpm., even with the highest working temperatures.
Its liner has a nickel-chrome coating for the best piston sliding. The piston is made of gravity die-cast light alloy at high silicon content with 2 special chromed and nitride steel rings. The new profile improves the performance and reduces the piston wear.

EXHAUST SYSTEM
The exhaust system is completely hand made for a better product quality. It is divided into two sections with manifold with spherical connection and fixed on natural rubber suspensions that grant longer life. The exclusive new springs with steel hooks make them stronger and offer the possibility to be better fastened.
The exhaust system has a compact design and contained dimensions to reduce the weight. The small overall dimensions improve the aerodynamic and grant a low noise level.

FUEL SYSTEM
Walbro carburetor with specific setting and air box. This setting, grants both a power increase at 8100 rpm and more constant power output. The Air Box with the new inlet holes grants a noise reduction and makes the setting easier.

FRAME CONNECTIONS
To make the assembly on the frame easier, the frame-engine connecting points of the Polini Thor 190 HF are the same as the other engines: Thor 80, Thor 130 EVO, Thor 200 HF and THOR 250.

FLASH STARTER
It is made of carbon steel material by Polini which grants longer life. To improve the fixing, M6 screws have been used.

Thor 200 HF

The new Polini Thor 200 HF has been developed by the Polini R&D team using the new 3D modeling software systems and flow dynamic simulation. The result of this research and the introduction of the innovative HF System grant better cooling improving the performance of the Thor 200 HF. It has been used during the last 2018 French Championship and it has already won its first title with the pluri-world champion Alex Mateos, confirming the reliability of the new THOR 200 HF.

The new carburetor set up has been improved thanks to a series of workings inside the carburetor finalized to increase the power output and the vaporization of the petrol/air mixture. Two fuel systems are available: bowl Ø28 carburetor or Walbro WB37 carburetor.

CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH
The centrifugal clutch has been studied to grant the best safety features during all the stages: starting, take off, flight and landing.

BALANCING COUNTERSHAFT
It is equipped with a balancing countershaft which cancels any vibration granting more comfort.

EASY STARTER
Polini Thor 200 HF engine is provided with the new Polini “Flash Starter”, easy and fast to start. A version with electric starter is also available.

Thor 250

THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS engines have new BLACK crank-cases and the well-known features of reduced and compact dimensions match perfectly with the unique weigh/power ration with improved performance.Technical features:

The main novelties are about reduced consumption, improved maximum power and torque out-put. Thanks to the new cylinder optimized admission transfers, the head has been modified with the optimization of the combustion chamber and squish, while the fuel system has been redesigned with new carburetor setting and new air-intake that improve the gas-petrol flows, making them more stable.

Thanks to this restyling, THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS are equipped with the latest version of the well-known flash starter system, improved in all its parts, with a new ergonomic handle that helps in the ignition phase and increases its safety with a better grip. These technical novelties by the R&D Polini staff make THOR 250 and THOR 250DS new, powerful and reliable engines.

Polini THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS engine feature a liquid cooled system, that grants an extraordinary steady power output and better performance at every rpm.

The die cast light-alloy aluminum cylinder grants a better thermal stability. The liner with Nickel-Siliceous coating improves the piston sliding, its resistance to wear and abrasion. The piston, gravity cast at high silicon content light alloy, reduces thermal expansion and the coupling slack. The piston top design is specific to optimize the compression ratio and to increase the flame propagation speed.

The advanced technology and the great performance of the new THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS give a better feeling when driving making the flight even more performing, dynamic, reactive, beside granting more stability.

THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS are provided with a balancing countershaft; this feature cancels the vibrations and guarantees such a driving comfort never felt during a flight and engines will last much longer.

Polini Motori has focused its attention to the security matter too. THOR 250 and THOR 250 DS are in fact provided with a centrifugal clutch entirely in oil bath, with a mechanical gear with helical teeth. The counter revolving rollers considerably decrease the upsetting torque-steer for a further flight comfort.

THOR 250 and THOR 250DS distinguish themselves for many other advanced solutions, as, for example, the comfortable closed-circuit system for the fuel recovery during transportation and the 12V output for any eventual electrical use.

THOR 250 engine adapts itself to various applications, as two-seat trikes, powered hang gliders, one-seat small three-axis, ULM motor-gliders, ULM and it is available with electric starter, that maintains the manual-starter too.

THOR 250 DS combines the safety of two electronic ignitions, two coils and two spark- plugs with redundant circuits each one independent. These features confirm it as the best engine for the following applications:  one-seat three-axis, one-seat trike, light two-seat trikes and many others.
